Because of its convenient transportation and good condition of trail paths, Needle Hill, Grassy Hill & Tai Mo Shan (針草帽) is a very popular route for trail running in Hong Kong. With its excellent views along the trail, it is one of the best long-distance hiking trails in Hong Kong.

Get off at Shing Mun Road (Pinapple Dam) and walk along Shing Mun Road to the main dam

Crossing the Shing Mun Reservoir Main Dam

Turn right after crossing the dam, enter via the wooden archway of Maclehose Trail (Stage Seven)
It will keep gaining altitude till the tip of the Needle Hill

The next peak is Grassy Hill

At this point, turn left and descend by stone steps to the Lead Mine Pass
but before getting to Lead Mine Pass, turn right to the summit of Grassy Hill

Lead Mine Pass, there are toilet, pavilion and vending machine (but it is often sold out), great place to take a break

Enter via the wooden archway of Maclehose Trail (Stage Eight)

Tai Mo Shan, the highest peak in Hong Kong at an elevation of 957 meters, but the summit is occupied and restricted by the rader station of Hong Kong Observatory, the entrance of the rader station is the highest position of Tai Mo Shan for the public
